A 21-year-old gay man from South Africa died last weekend after he was tied up with a wire, beaten and set on fire while a group of teens watched, Gay Star News reports.

The group of teens, ages ranging between 14 and 18, were invited by a man to watch how he was "going to kill a moffie [a gay slur similar to "fag"]."
The victim was David Olyn of Ceres a large town in the Western Cape Province of South Africa.

GSN reports the group of teens was told to meet the man near a dam where they found Olyn already tied up with a wire and covered in blood. The young group watched as the man allegedly hit Olyn over the head with a brick and jumped on his face while yelling "voetsek!" or "fuck off."

According to South Africa's Afrikaans newspaper the Son Daily, the teens left without telling authorities about the attack. When they returned the next day, Olyn was dead. Once they realized he was dead, they informed a woman about the body, which was half naked and burned. She called the police.

"I spoke to those kids and they were kicking a ball around and I thought that perhaps they needed help or counselling, but this was nothing new for them. They are exposed to violence on a daily basis," chief reporter Maahir Pretorius told Mamba Online.

Police arrested a suspect who allegedly tortured Olyn on March 23.
