Crave Announces 'Slo Pitch,' Queer Softball Mockumentary Series

Crave, the Canadian streaming platform behind the viral queer hockey romance "Heated Rivalry", is expanding its slate of LGBTQ+ sports stories with "Slo Pitch", a forthcoming mockumentary series centered on a lesbian softball team. The announcement comes amid heightened online buzz for sapphic content, building on the success of "Heated Rivalry" and filling a gap left by the canceled second season of "A League of Their Own".

"Slo Pitch" adapts the Canadian web series of the same name created by J. Stevens, Gwenlyn Cumyn, and Karen Knox, who return as writers and producers alongside developers Katie Ford and Jane Cooper Ford. Produced by Shaftesbury in association with Boss & Co. and PAGEBOY Productions—Elliot Page's company—the 10-episode half-hour series follows the Public Lass Brovaries, a queer underdog team that has lost their league six times.

The plot centers on coach Joanne Pico, played by Jess Salgueiro, who is determined to turn the team around after being dumped by her girlfriend—the team's co-founder—now playing for a rival squad. Over one summer, the team navigates strikeouts, petty rivalries, conservative-politician sponsors, and chaotic sexy carwash fundraisers, aiming to "win the breakup, get the gang back together, and maybe even find new love over beers in the dugout."

The ensemble cast features "Schitt's Creek" star Emily Hampshire as an executive producer and performer, alongside principal players Karen Knox, Gwenlyn Cumyn, Emma Hunter, Chelsea Muirhead, Lane Webber, Kadijah Roberts-Abdullah , and Amanda Cordner. Guest stars include Nadine Bhabha, who plays Elena in "Heated Rivalry" and serves as a writer here, bridging the two Crave series, plus Varun Saranga, Laura De Carteret, Don MacLean Jr. , comedians Carolyn Taylor, Chris Locke, and Chris Sandiford.
