Crave Announces 'Slo Pitch,' Queer Softball Mockumentary Series
READ TIME: 2 MIN.
Crave, the Canadian streaming platform behind the viral queer hockey romance "Heated Rivalry", is expanding its slate of LGBTQ+ sports stories with "Slo Pitch", a forthcoming mockumentary series centered on a lesbian softball team. The announcement comes amid heightened online buzz for sapphic content, building on the success of "Heated Rivalry" and filling a gap left by the canceled second season of "A League of Their Own".
"Slo Pitch" adapts the Canadian web series of the same name created by J. Stevens, Gwenlyn Cumyn, and Karen Knox, who return as writers and producers alongside developers Katie Ford and Jane Cooper Ford. Produced by Shaftesbury in association with Boss & Co. and PAGEBOY Productions—Elliot Page's company—the 10-episode half-hour series follows the Public Lass Brovaries, a queer underdog team that has lost their league six times.
The plot centers on coach Joanne Pico, played by Jess Salgueiro, who is determined to turn the team around after being dumped by her girlfriend—the team's co-founder—now playing for a rival squad. Over one summer, the team navigates strikeouts, petty rivalries, conservative-politician sponsors, and chaotic sexy carwash fundraisers, aiming to "win the breakup, get the gang back together, and maybe even find new love over beers in the dugout."
The ensemble cast features "Schitt's Creek" star Emily Hampshire as an executive producer and performer, alongside principal players Karen Knox, Gwenlyn Cumyn, Emma Hunter, Chelsea Muirhead, Lane Webber, Kadijah Roberts-Abdullah , and Amanda Cordner. Guest stars include Nadine Bhabha, who plays Elena in "Heated Rivalry" and serves as a writer here, bridging the two Crave series, plus Varun Saranga, Laura De Carteret, Don MacLean Jr. , comedians Carolyn Taylor, Chris Locke, and Chris Sandiford.
A highlight is a cameo by Ayami Sato, the Japanese softball pitcher who made history as the first woman to play in a Canadian men's professional baseball league, adding authenticity to the sports theme. Filming wrapped in January 2026, with the series slated for a 2026 Crave premiere, though no exact date or U. S. distributor has been confirmed; international distribution is handled by Shaftesbury.
In October 2025, Crave released the first image from production, fueling excitement on social media and the show's Instagram page . No trailer is available yet, but anticipation is high among LGBTQ+ audiences eager for more representation in sports comedies, especially after "Heated Rivalry"'s internet dominance. This project underscores Crave's commitment to queer storytelling, offering transgender and lesbian people visibility through humor, rivalries, and community in a traditionally male-dominated sport.
