'The Bachelor' Alum Colton Underwood Calls for a 'Queer Dating Show'

Out former football star and alumnus of "The Bachelor" Colton Underwood was unmasked on "The Masked Singer," having been disguised as "Love Bird." But the song this love bird sang after the reveal included a call for a "queer dating show."

Entertainment Weekly detailed that Underwood was revealed as the man in the bird suit after singing the Goo Goo Girls' "All that You Are" on the April 10 episode of the show.

Underwood spoke to his appearance on the show being a matter of timing in both his work and personal life. He'd had a chance to be on the show on a previous season, but elected not to at that time; "I was still very much in my coming out process and healing and getting back in front of cameras was not in my cards," Underwood told EW, "but I always knew a show like this is just so fun."

Another fun show would be one centered around queer dating.

Asked by EW what he thought of the idea of an "LGBTQ season" of "The Bachelor," Underwood pointed out that "there's so many other incredible dating shows that might even be more well equipped format-wise."

"I think when you think about the format of 'The Bachelor,' it's tricky and it's hard," Underwood went on to explain. "Our community is so diverse, and we play by different rules, and I mean that with all the love and respect, and I think there's other shows like 'Love Is Blind' and 'The Ultimatum' that you saw did a queer season."

"But I definitely think there's a time and a place for a queer dating show," Underwood added. "I think it's time. People, I think, would support it and they would love it. And I think with the representation it would be great."

As for what's next for himself, Underwood indicated he was in need of a break from time spent in front of the cameras.

"No, I'm actually getting back out," the reality star said, adding that his sting on "The Masked Singer" "was great just because I took a solid year off and just needed some time with my husband to enjoy married life and focus on my personal life."

"But now I'm really getting back into the production and development," Underwood went on to say, making mention of "a docuseries that I'm working on right now for student athletes" as well as "a couple unscripted projects that I'm currently in development and working on."

"So," Underwood summarized, "just a lot of exciting things just for a future in entertainment that doesn't always involve me being on screen and dancing in a bird costume."
