Mario Cantone's Anthony may be baking fresh hot bread and dating an equally hot Italian on the Max series "And Just Like That...," but the out actor says he wants Anthony to have a little more of the spicy spotlight for himself when the show comes back for Season 3.
"Speaking with series star Kristin Davis on a recent episode of her 'Are You a Charlotte?' podcast," Entertainment Weekly relayed, the comic actor revealed that "before season 3 started filming, I said... 'I want more nudity.'"
The funnyman, 65, isn't joking: He's got the receipts to show that shedding some clothes for the camera, as he did in Season 2 of the series, was a hit with fans.
"My DMs blew up the next day," EW reported Cantone saying of his not-quite-nude scene. "I like being sexualized at 65 years old," he added.
Like the show's main character, Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Anthony, once married, is now free to check out fellow single Manhattanites once again. The show's first episode dispatched "Mr. Big," Carrie's on-again, off-again love interest from "Sex and the City," the HBO comedy to which "And Just Like That..." is a sequel.
That departure was planned as far back as the franchise's never-made third feature film. But Anthony, who had married fellow gay recurring character Stanford Blatch (Willie Garson), ended up a divorcee after Garson's untimely death from pancreatic cancer in the midst of filming the reboot's first season.
That tragic loss opened the door to Anthony's next love story, in which he and a younger man – handsome Italian poet Giuseppe (Sebastiano Pigazzi) – are an item. "When we were going into the second season, Michael Patrick King called me up and said, 'Hey, just so you know, you're gonna be getting a storyline, you're gonna be getting a boyfriend,'" Cantone said on the podcast, according to EW.
Cantone called his sizzling scenes with Pigazzi "a little weird," saying that Pigazzi is "like a brother" to him in real life. Listen to the half-hour episode of "Are You a Charlotte?" at this link
